Officially the name Lovina does not exist, the region is called Buleleng and is marked on the map in yellow (the most left part) on the map.
Lovina is a area between the two major cities in the north Singaraja and Seririt, there is no Balinese who has Lovina as birth city.
The name Lovina was created by the Lovina Beach Hotel, the pioneer hotel that was built in 1953 by Anak Agung Pandji Tisna. It was the first hotel that was built in the area. When in 1956 the Lovina Beach Hotel was transferred to his younger cousin, things went less and the Lovina Beach Hotel slowly lost popularity.
In 1980 the provincial government of Bali built 2 beach houses for the Lovina Beach Hotel as support. When the area became more popular in tourism, the name Lovina also became more famous and so the 7 fishing villages located here became a region with the name Lovina. I understand that there are different versions of the origin of the name. The Lovina Beach Hotel still exists and is also mentioned in the section on hotels.

As said, Lovina originally consists of a row of fishing villages along the northern road on Bali, which have grown together under the influence of tourism. The following villages (from east to west) are Pemaron, Tukadmungga, Anturan, Banyualit, Kalibukbuk, Kaliasem and Temukus.
It is a quiet seaside area with a black (lava sand) beach and is a beautiful diving area, so do not expect golden sandy beaches and beach hotels with sunbeds on the beach. There are restaurants, cafes, shops, diving schools and hotels. The tourist centre is located in the village of Kalibubuk, where there is also a beach promenade. In the centre is the famous statue with a dolphin. Lovina is best known for the dolphins, which you can find early in groups in the morning at the nearby reef. In contrast to the south you can swim here everywhere, because the current is calm and the sea is generally quiet.
On the websites you will find little information about Lovina, often known as the area where you can spot dolphins or the information is outdated, but the reality is that Lovina in the last years has become a region that has more to offer than a black beach and dolphins, not only Lovina is interesting but also the north of Bali is beautiful to discover and this is good to do with Lovina as a base.
